After several months of learning about the theory, training, and co-coaching, I am really pleased to have my accreditation from Neurozone in how the brain works and how to harness our brain’s abilities to help improve our resilience, increase high performance readiness and meet our potential through coaching.
Thanks to all my fellow coaches on the course and to our Neurozone tutors for facilitating the classroom sessions
I cannot recommend Neurozone highly enough and am looking forward to using the new techniques with coaching clients.

Is personality (or psychometric) testing a worthwhile part of coaching? In my humble opinion…..it depends!
Personality testing for the sake of it has very few benefits, especially if it is not used properly. Poorly used they can have a negative effect on your coaching, and on your relationship with your coachee. Many people (me included) have had bad experiences of personality testing. This is often if the results have not been explained appropriately or the details are challenged rather than seeing the bigger picture.
In my experience using personality testing in coaching (and as a Thomas PPA practitioner and ICS Connect accredited) their power is in the overall themes and the discussions they provoke, including why your coachee may not think they are right. This can lead quickly to the identification of further areas of development.
There are many different personality tests available. I think it is important to use those tests you believe your coachee will identify with, but more importantly ones you are comfortable and confident using.
Personally I value the results of the testing I have done (well most of them!), and I have done quite a few. Not only have they confirmed things about me, but they have also helped in how I work with others.
So if you are using personality tests (on yourself or with others), I’d say when you get the results look at the wood, not the trees. Look at what you can learn from them and not why you think they are wrong.
If you would like further information on how I use personality testing in my coaching, or you think I can help you succeed, please contact me.
I attended a webinar towards the end of last year hosted by the Association for Coaching with Nancy Doyle of Genius Within about neurodiversity and coaching, and have recently received Nancy’s new book “Neurodiversity Coaching” - which I can’t recommend enough.
Even with my personal experiences of neurodiversity, including within coaching, I found the webinar and book fascinating, insightful, and learnt a great deal.
Once again it was highlighted that neurodiversity is something to embrace. Coaching neurodiverse coachees, and also helping organisations understand neurodiversity better, can have a huge impact on ensuring everyone meets their full potential.
It’s not just about making allowance for neurodiversity, it’s about appreciating, understanding and accepting there are different ways to work to get the best from everyone - and these may not always be obvious.
This includes how you as a coach work with your coachee in the best way to meet their needs, and help them see their strengths and potential. This may be through clean language, which coaching model you use, or an appropriate coaching environment.
A key step is to understand what everyone needs to succeed and how they want (or need) to be treated. Don’t be afraid to ask as part of your coaching conversation and contracting. You are less likely to offend someone by asking, than offend by not and then making incorrect assumptions.

Delighted to end 2023 by being awarded my Institute of Leadership Level 7 Certificate for Executive & Senior Level Coaches & Mentors. It’s been a long journey, but really enjoyable and worthwhile.
Now looking forward to taking on new clients in 2024 to work with them to achieve their goals and potential.
